Today I am going to write a little bit about Dryer Balls. These bad boys should be in everyones laundry room!
What is a Dryer Ball?
"Dryer balls are baseball-sized balls that are typically made of rubber, plastic or fabric. The promotional material for them says when you put several in a clothes dryer they'll hasten drying; they'll also soften clothes and reduce static, serving as a substitute for chemical-based fabric softeners."
Ok, so this is the first thing that pops up on Google when you look up dryer balls. A dryer ball is basically an alternative to dryer sheets. They end up speeding up the drying process by breaking up the clumps of laundry, they also help to reduce the static.
Financially Responsible and Eco-Friendly
So, why is this a good thing? Well, they're re-useable. Like super re-useable, a set of dryer balls could last you for over 1000 loads of laundry!! So some super quick math, dryer sheets on Amazon sell for $0.04/one sheet per load. Well, dryer balls end up being $0.02/load! Half the price, and on top of that when the dryer ball is no longer working you can compost it (or at least the wool ones) because they are made from 100% wool it is no different then throwing a handful of cat hair in the compost. This not only saves you tones of money in the long run, but it also helps save the environment. Traditional dryer sheets are full of chemicals and not biodegradable.
Dryer balls also help your Dryer function better, they bounce around in the load of laundry creating room for air circulation. They help everything dry faster. So you'll save money by cutting down the length of your dryer cycles.

Are you allergic to scents and perfumes? Well, I am. And let me tell you it cuts down on the amount of products I can even consider using to wash my clothes. Pretty much anything with smells is a no go. Wool dryer balls are scent free! Completely 100% scent free. This is a huge game changer for people like me with allergies! I end up spending way more money on my laundry sheets because I can only use certain brands, not any more! Do you have a baby in the house? Skip out on any harsh chemicals, find yourself a natural baby safe laundry detergent and a couple Dryer Balls. Safe to use with babies sensitive skin, and super easy for you moms! No more accidentally grabbing more that one dryer sheet, or forgetting one completely. Keep your dryer balls on top of the dryer, and knock them in when you close the door. All set!
Want to add a little fragrance to your clothes? Sure, you can do that too! Just take your wool dryer ball, add a couple drops of your favourite essential oils.. let it dry, and Ta-dah! You're good to go. Love bright colours? Cool, grab some dryer balls in hot pink, bright purple or lime green! Seriously I make them in ALL sorts of colours. Like to keep things a little more subdued? Better Absorbency
Do you use Microfibre cloths? Have you ever noticed on the cleaning instructions it says not to use dryer sheets. The reason is fabric softeners can actually decrease the absorbency. They're super safe to use and will increase your towels ability to dry! You'll physically see your towels become more fluffy when you use dryer balls. And who doesn't love wrapping themselves in a big soft smooshy towel after a nice warm bath.
